Due Date for 2020 individual tax returns is April 15, 2021. Automatic (no questions asked) six month extensions are available by filing Form 4868 no later than April 15, 2021. Extensions do not cover potential tax liabilities. Any potential taxes owed should be paid by the original due date of the return to insure no penalties or interest charges.

The IRS will begin processing 2020 tax returns on February 12, 2021. Taxpayers claiming EITC and ACTC are expected to start receive refunds by early March if there are no issues.
